Book Review: Deep and Wide by Andy Stanley (Creating Churches Unchurched People Love to Attend)
Deep and Wide by Andy Stanley (Creating Churches Unchurched People Love to Attend).
Everyone involved in any kind of ministry at any level should READ this book. From cover to cover.
Andy has lifted the curtains of his life and ministry with honesty and provoking and shocking truths, reflections and questions. For those of us who love and are passionate about the church, Andy has cracked a very important code that could lead to countless possibilities.
It is possible not to compromise the message of Jesus and reach wide, very wide. But this requires one to re-think everything and to have a clear vision and purpose from which springs all models and practices.
Andy says, without flinching, that the big problem in the church is shortage of leaders. Yes you heard it right, Leaders. (don't argue with me read the book as I can hear the buts already...).
Don't try to highlight the insights, you'll end up coloring the whole book. It is that good.
I also loved and laughed on the stories and complicities between Andy and Louis Giglio (my other great inspiration).
Two extracts from the book :
1. "Blessed is the man who gets the opportunity to devote his life to something bigger than himself and who finds himself surrounded by friends who share his passion."
2. "Local churches should be characterized by deep roots and wide reaches. Churches should be theologically sound and culturally relevant. We should be bold in our proclamation and winsome in our approach. In the Gospels we find in Jesus the embodiment of both. As his body, we should be as well."

And many more. My prayer is that our generation will find a way to be sound and relevant.
